Tournament Concept: The Gamble
Hold your horses! I'm not going to host it right now! Maybe in the future! I also posted this idea on the FPS forums. I just want your opinions because the more I can clarify it, the better results I think we'll have if it is in fact run.
This would be ideal for forumers who know their way around because participants would have to use their wits and trust in perception of other players to make it to the top, not just their playing skill. Object: To have the most [gambling] points Format: • 16 or 32 player • Single elimination How to get points: • 1 point for each match (if no one gambles) • 1 extra point for every unit that you choose not to use in each round Screenshot policy: • Before by both players • After by the winner (if not both) You get more points for gambling. If you get matched up with someone you think you can easily beat, you would earn more points if you chose to use fewer units. You don't have to post or PM me beforehand about gambling, but it will show up in the screenshot. A screenshot will be necessary before and after gameplay! Take it immediately before a unit dies so I can get an accurate account of who's gambling. KEY: For each unit out of ten possible slots (DT = 2) that you don't use, there is one more point in the pot for you if you win. For example, Bottle is playing noob123. Bottle chooses to only use 6 units, while noob123 feels he will need all 10 to win. Bottle wins. He not only gets his 1 point of regular victory, but also 4 bonus points because he chose not to use four of the possible ten slots, making his first round total 5 points. Now if noob123 beat Bottle, he would just get the regular 1 point. You catch my drift? Screenshots of before and after matchplay are mandatory and would be posted in the actual thread. I'll include them in the front page write-up in small print next to each round. In the final game, the victor is the one with the most points! This means that someone may have to make an uncomfortable gamble in order to win. I'm not sure what would happen if there was a 10-unit difference between the two finalists. I think it's a good idea, but it seems like the people who got paired with the worst players, instead of continuing on and playing better players, might gain an insurmountable advantage.

I love the idea, but Girshwin is right. There is a problem. Perhaps you could have a gambling system, where you have to gamble your units before you know who you are playing?

In fact a similar idea has been discussed in the LTR Committee section and there will be a gambling tournament (of sorts) after the Parfait tournament is over. The idea you put forward was also put forward in the private section and dismissed, to be replaced by a better idea, which you will all find out about soon...
