Inspired by the FPS version, originally created by Mithrandir. This is probably THE most popular tournament style over there, and so we're going to run it here too and see how it goes.

The rules are extremely complex, so please bear with me while I explain them. If you have any questions, please post them in your signup.

There will be four teams (each led by an LTR committee member) made up of everyone that wants to be a part of this. The teams will be decided in schoolyard pick ‘em fashion, with the captains alternating turns choosing players (see below). Then before the game play begins, those captains will have the opportunity to make trades (like in pro-sports) to make an all-around better team. This is necessary because the competition will require skill in different kinds of games. Once the trading is over, there will be two match-ups, with the first and second team playing each other and the third and fourth team playing each other. The two teams that are beaten in the first round will then contest a playoff for 3rd place, and the finalists will play at the same time.

Signups will remain open until 8.59pm GMT Monday. Teams will be chosen at 9pm GMT Monday in the Legends lobby.



1. Pre-tournament issues

1.1 Signups for participants

The tournament will begin with signups. If you want to sign up, post here with the following details: game account name and your rating (out of 10) of how good you think you are at dropless grey, turtle and freestyle. There is no point putting 10 in every aspect because that will not help a captain that is looking for a specialist freestyler, for example.

The captains will then pick a team from the list of signups, hopefully getting a good balance of freestyle, grey and turtle players.

The four captains will be Zadico, Flash Demon, Xiahou Dun and pils. I shall organise the tournament.

1.2 Team selection

When the four leaders pick, it will start with L1, and then L2, then L3, then L4, and then the second round will go backwards, starting with L4 through L1 and then for the third round it would start with L1 again. Which leader gets to pick first will be decided randomly.

Once they have their teams, or before if he wants, the leader chooses a team name. They must then nominate a vice-captain from the players they have chosen in case they are unable to log in for a few days and a decision needs to be made.

While picking the team, the captains will no doubt be looking for not only game skill but also activity. If you are inactive and get disqualified it does your team no good at all, even if you're Omegashin. DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU ARE SURE TO BE ACTIVE FOR THE NEXT MONTH OR TWO. This tournament may be running for some time.

1.3 Trading players

After the team has been chosen, any player on the team may request a transfer to another team (for any reason). The captain will consider the request and, if all involved parties agree (ie. the two captains and the two players swopping), players may be exchanged between teams. Bear in mind that if the captain turns down your transfer request you will just have to put up with it. By signing up to the tournament you are accepting that whichever captain picks you, you will try your hardest for the team in whatever style your captain puts you in (even if you hate everyone in your team and even if you have never played that style before). If you have a problem with this... don't sign up.



2. Tournament overview

2.1 Semi-finals

After the leaders have their teams finalised, the 4 teams will randomly be placed against each other. The two winners of the semi-finals meet in the final, while the two losing teams face off for 3rd place. Rules of the contest are described below.

2.2 Finals

The final and the 3rd place playoff will take place once both semi-finals are finished.



3. Rules of the PSST

3.1 Before every round, leaders set up rosters, deploying a third of their team for turtle games, one third for freestyle games, one third for dropless grey games. Obviously the captains will want to play their team members in their strongest playing style.

In addition to deciding who is playing what kind of game, the leaders must place their players in order (not necessarily in order of skill) by ranking them in each category. These “rosters” must be then be submitted to the tournament organiser. An example of this:

Zadico chooses his team from the 44 signups, choosing AFO, Respect, Machiavelli, Luzbel, Solomon, xEaglex, DMD, Duraza, Voltron, Lost Soul and Fonzo. He sets his roster and submits it to the organiser without telling the other team:

If you want to challenge a certain member of the other team, then you should inform your captain, and he/she will then contact the other captain about possibly agreeing on placing the challengers in the same position on their rosters. Of course, neither captain is under any obligation to do so, and if a captain chooses to use the information the opposition captain gives to their tactical advantage by not putting a player where they said they would, that's their prerogative.

3.2 First round of fighting

Once both rosters have been received by the organiser, they are revealed and the first round of matches are decided, the “1” players in each category playing each other, the “2” players playing each other, etc. Players will have a certain amount of time to complete their matches, if someone is a no-show by the deadline they will be disqualified. Anyone that loses a match, obviously, is out and takes no further part in the semi-final. All winners then advance to the second round.

3.3 Leaders set up rosters for the second round

The second round works similarly. Opposing players (the number 1 players from each team play each other, the number 2 players will play each other, etc.) will play.

However, there will probably be more players on one team than another (unless the first round was drawn 6-6 in the above example). The team with more players will be allowed to choose some players that sit out that round so their number matches the other team’s. So if Zad's team has 7 players left and Flash's team has 5 players left, Zad can choose two of the players that won round 1 to "sit on the bench". The rosters will then have 5 players on each and they are matched up in the same way.

Obviously, there will be occasions when the number of matchups is not a multiple of 3, meaning there cannot be a balanced number of matchups in each style. Should this occur, the following round will have an extra game of the style(s) missed out in the preceding round.

Example: After round 1, Zadico, Respect, Lost Soul, Fonzo, machiavelli, DMD and AFO remain standing on Zad's team. Zadico chooses to put mach and Respect on the bench, and submits the following roster:

Similarly Flash submits his roster, which is then compared to Zad's and the matchups take place.

Round 3 will then have an extra freestyle game to make up for the imbalance in round 2.

Also note that in the event of there being more than 15 matchups in the first round of a semi-final or final, any extra players will sit on the bench in round 1.

3.3 Rounds continue until all of one team is eliminated

Teams will play however many rounds are necessary until all of one team’s players are eliminated. It’s just a matter of knocking out all of the opposing players. Due to the privacy of the rosters, nobody knows who will be matched up with who until both captains have submitted their rosters. This leaves plenty of room for tactical thinking.



4. Tournament completion

Once the semi-finals, final and 3rd-place playoff have been completed, LTR points will be awarded as follows:

For each game won by an individual player: 5 points

For "surviving" right through the semi-final/final/playoff: 10 points*

For being a member of the first-placed team (winners of the final): 40 points

For being a member of the second-placed team (losers of the final): 30 points

For being a member of the third-placed team (winners of the playoff): 15 points

For being a member of the fourth-placed team (losers of the playoff): 5 points

* Note that you must have won a minimum of 3 games to be awarded this bonus, anyone can survive if they sit on the bench for the whole game...
