This is a discussion on My formation within the Training Room forums, part of the Tactics Headquarters category; Comments? Any way to improve? It's worked pretty well for me so far....

not bad, but since its dropless grey i wont go in too much detail, and let you make some decisions in your setup, id say protect your witch more(move it behind knight or lw) and move scout on the inside of the assasin and knight, to protect that more, because right now its too open for attacks

a few things:
1. The witch is vulnerable to a a scout or a night up the side. It is more of an opposite side form I see. 2. The scout is a bit far off esspecially if you are playing same side. It can also be easily flanked by a knight. Once that knight moves up and attacks, you are forced to retreat and therefore you will be playing defensive which is not what you want on opposite side games. The key for opposite side games is to rush and flank your opponent, taking out his/her cleric and chanty and stuff. 3. Your BW is in the worst possible position. The cleric cannot escape if it is attacked. I suggest moving the scout closer to your form, maybe switch the BW and chanty, or move the chanty 1 to the right and moving the BW on the other side of the cleric. Thirdly, find a way to defend that witch. I understand that the witch is there if you get a same side game, but since that scout is WAY out there, it seems as though you are trying to make an all around form. I hope this helps, if it doesnt I will try and answer any other questions you have.

oh yeah, forgot about the barrier ward...yeah, limits the cleric movement too much, and its not good to have a setup thats just good for opp side games, because grey games arent really ever prearranged, except for maybe for "no rushing"

I love facing rushes with my turtle. They are the best games
. Its a challenge. I always play dropless so its fun facing golems or bombs / rushes.

Personally, i'd put the assassin in front of that witch, because a lot of greys use the same form, and the assassin can sneak down that side easily, often removing cleric/Chant/Mud early on. Plus, there's a chance of explosion! Put the scout in the old assassin's place. And move the BW two squares forward, so the cleric can escape and so the BW can reach units further out who're in trouble, not just cleric/Chant. Move the chant a square away from cleric too. I've never found it useful that close, you end up freezing him too.
