In defense of the Assassin bomb
Well, it's a break in the world cup and I never see any new topics in here besides "new form plz!!!@#!!"... heres my addition.
Ever since I started playing, everything I've read roughly denounced the assassin bomb as a ineffective tool only used by poor players. I disagree, having an assassin on your basic grey amplifies so many other units strengths, I believe it's indespensible. ![]() (sorry about the drawing on it) This is a form I enjoy using which really utilizes the assassin's potential. Note the chanty. If you can detonate the assassin on an enemy ranged unit (scout, muddy, dragon) your enchantress becomes unstoppable. But how to do that: 1. Pyro/Assassin combo. The beauty of this combo is that a a knight hit plus a pyro shot will put your assassin within bomb range. This is somewhat useful when you are playing an aggressive opponent who leads with a knight, takes the easy side shot on your assassin, you pyro, then either kill the knight, barrier, etc... Sometimes it's very advantageous to knight hit your own assassin, then pyro and bomb. Especially when the enemy threatens your cleric with scout/dragon/muddy, bringing their unit within bombing range. Another option using the pyro and knight is to move your knight beside the assassin, side hit and you have a 65 percent chance of hitting. Hopefully you hit, and your assassin will have hi positive blocking, enough that a side shot will only have a ~5% chance of hitting. You can then pyro and bomb. This is a very decent opening move if your opponent threatens to use their scout aggressively, even given the chance involved. ![]() 2. Scout/Scout. So often the opponent, seeing an opposite side turtule looks for an easy unit to pick off with their scout. They'll move up, take a side shot on your scout, they have two turns wait. Next turn, move your assassin with in 4 squares of scout, out of mage/muddy/dragon range, turn your back on your own form. Next turn, move scout, fire on assassin (he now has 3 hp) then bomb the scout. This combo is especially potent if you use a chanty, like I do. Then their scout is dead early, and your chanty is now the most powerful unit on the field. ![]() 3. Lightening Ward. The lightening ward does 26 damage to your assassin. Thus if your assassin is within the 27-30 range of hp range of hp, you can unleash the bomb within two turns, and often the opponent won't expect this obvious move and will be more willing to move their long-wait units within range of your assassin. Albeit, I've only used this one a couple times. Most often this opportunity comes up in the middle of the game where you flank/penetrate with the assassin, they hit it with... knight, witch... you heal and retreat. A knight hit+ heal leaves you with 28 hp, and the perfect opportunity to unleash. No pic, sorry Disadvantages: The assassin bomb, even if set up perfectly can be foiled by many unblockable units. Witches, pyros, dragon, kind of wisp, and especially, the muddy. The muddy has a totaly attack range of 8 squares and thus is the utlimate enemy of the bomb. Traditionally, I've been able to move my assassin back one or two square to just nip out of muddy range. Taking a scout shot or two at the muddy might convince your opponent to retreat it, if done effectively. The dragon is also a bugger against the assassin, because of its heavy damage. Just remember, that if they bring their dragon close enough to fire on the assassin, its also close enough to turn around, set up a bomb and kill it (a 2 for 1 trade!). |

I would make a comment but I just had to take care of a dead kitten and I feel like shit.

Re: In defense of the Assassin bomb
I agree with ya, assassin bomb is very good for a grey, even for good greys. I use an assassin in my grey setup and I usually bombs every game, I wouldn't even trade a beast rider for an assassin.
I don't know if the stuff I said are relevant, but good job.

Re: In defense of the Assassin bomb
I would trade a besasty for an assain just because the measty is my favorite unit :P but I agree that the assasin is an indespensible grey unit esspecially becuse of the bomb.

Re: In defense of the Assassin bomb
Every unit has its own uses, strengths and weaknesses, and anyone that says the assassin is weak doesn't realise that.
However, against anyone with even a small knowledge of the game, they won't allow you to ass-bomb their best units. I prefer the assassin as a flanker, or a good distraction. I very rarely attempt to set up a bomb myself, unless I can get the scout or dragon for it, or if we're in the endgame. |

Re: In defense of the Assassin bomb
The Assassin certainly works wonders for those who know how to use it. A good player can turn any situation into a bomb situation. It's great for putting opponents under pressure. They tend to screw up under pressure.
