Why do you play TAO?
That's a rhetorical question. This isn't a poll or anything. I'm just disturbed. Downright disturbed. You see, I like this game. As I've mentioned before, it's my replacement for online chess. Chess is a really old game. There's nobody called SeeD who invented chess. Chess doesn't get updated with new units. It's just fun. I enjoy the strategy. I enjoy the competition. I enjoy the challenge.
So why the heck do people "retire"? I might understand if you need more time for your studies. I'll understand if you prefer to do something else. But people complain about how the game hasn't been updated. People complain about the lag. People complain about the people who are leaving and they think suddenly the game just isn't fun to play anymore. Do you play TAO cause it's some kind of social club for you? Do you play TAO for the "lulz"? (I'm developing a dislike for the term.) Do you play TAO cause you like all the pretty lights? Is it not new and exciting enough for you? Do you simply have to have new units to find the game fun? Well, I sure as heck don't on all points. That's why I'm not pissin' and moaning. The strategy, competition, and challenge is enough for me. I tolerate the lag - it comes and goes. I couldn't care less if SeeD never made an update ever again, aside from bug fixes. I challenge you to play it for the same reasons I do. I made that rankings site to help you guys enjoy it more - to keep track of your progress better - to help you set goals for yourself and keep tabs on how you compare with others. Look at all the good things this game has going for it and enjoy them for what they are.

Yeah, ask yourself why that is. Cause perhaps you forgot that I compared it with chess. People play chess for years and there are no updates. I've also compared it with poker and people play that for years too. Games such as these don't need updates to be fun.
Besides, I have your number. When you threatened to quit you cited the fact that you're frustrated that you don't play very well anymore. Well, look at my stats. I downright suck compared to how I used to do. But I'm not frustrated, and I'm not quitting over it.

Now there's a reason I would understand.
I have no problem with people taking a break.

I just cant stop! I also like chess much, but noone plays vs me o.O
And online chess? Then TAO because its like chess, but somehow more advanced... (And theres the luck component, which is the only way that could place it under chess.. - of course lag, dcs, idiots aso... but about the game it self, just the luck thing is not perfect...)

Well, my story is somewhat similar. Im a pretty competetive chess player (that means playing in tournaments often), so I played online chess for a while. I didn't like it. Most people on internet play blitz games which I dislike very strongly. Also I need to actually see my opponent to play well. Anyway, I ditched online chess and tried to find some other online strategy game, which led me to TAO.
So yeah, TAO is like a replacement for online chess. Its pretty fun and easy to learn (you don't have to spend years to become a decent player). I hop on and play a game or two when I feel like doing so. I find it relaxing. Guess you could call me a casual player. P.s. I wont argue with those who think TAO is more complex than chess. Its like bashing a wall with your head.

Oh yeah sure, the game is fun with different oppenents everyday, friends to chat to and so on. But we aren't you Brutal, for example me and voltron. We've been playing this game for a fair few years , me 4 and volt 5. I believe you've been playing for as long as we have. But me and volt got bored, the game has just lost its interest to me.
Your speech is pushing me into playing TAO as active as I've always have but I've already decided. Maybe when I exhaust myself with sports and socializing to the limit and, exceeding my best school reports because I wish to become really successful like my sister. Everyone I know and meet gawp at me when they find out that I am my sisters brother. I can easily get up to her level with enough dedication by joining lots ofs events my sister does and know she makes them. God, she gets sponsored by people that grant her thousands of dollars to get all of her University equipment, jeez they're even giving her a few thousand dollars so she can come to the Beijing Olympics and play in the Youth Orchestra. I want that, a wall of fame for my own. Now you may say that I have a wall of fame here as a Si Recruiter, I know and you know that I am able to come back at anytime I wish if I were to ever stop my real life goals which cannot be achieved if I spend hours playing TAO let alone browsing forums. |
