Photo Editing Help

Hey i have a photo editing question. I have this image im trying to make it so that the picture is just the character and no background (transparent). Right now im using the program GIMP. If you dont understand what im trying to do just say so and ill try to explain better.

If any could show me how to do this, or do it for me would be greatly appreciated.

I use ps cs2, which provides a dully simple magic wand tool... Dunno if there is an equivalent in gimp. Ill post you a .png with transparent background tomorrow, if I dont forget.

im like 90% sure there's a magic wand tool in GIMP

there is a magic wand tool, its icon is a bit more like a fairy wand though if i remember right

Ya i just found that magic wand tool. I just can't figure out how to delete the background. I can see how it selects just the background but is there a tool within the magic wand tool that deletes the background? Help is always appreciated.

select the background

hit delete key to delete that section, or use eraser tool to erase it all *it only erases the region that is selected*

delete/ ctrl + x

im not too sure how GIMP works, but if you can, make a new transparent layer under the layer you want to render before you use the magic wand tool so the program doesnt add the white background in or cause the rendering effect too difficult to see

Note that some small parts around the wings and helmet were white and adjecent to the background, and are thus transparent too. Simply edit those by painting over.
