SOTM Suggestions and Modifications

SOTM is one of my favorite things about lf. Problem is inactivity, although graphics users do go online the forums at least a few times a month or week.

These suggestions may seem like a big change and thats because it is. However nothing can make sotm worse since atm we aren't even having it.


Suggestions
1. Have Theme Voting, where a pool of topics is suggested and then voted in a poll.

2. Minimum of 5 entries for sotm to count.

3. Open poll voting. Where everyone has the right to vote in a public poll on theie favorite banner. (you may not vote for yourself is so disqualified)

4. Rest is same as far as sotm goes.

SOTM has always been slow though. Whenever the SOTM of the month is finished, judges take a long time to pick the winner. Then takes awhile to change a members name to pink in which eventually after 2 weeks into the month, the next SOTM starts.

It's a good suggestion, but imo, your just slowing down the process even more. Since now your also waiting for members to vote on what type of SOTM they want, which can create arguments. In which not everybody will agree....Also minimum of 5 entries? That defininly slows down the process on top of the public poll.

If this did work, then I suggest making an SOTM every other month.

Its the traditional sotm method of other graphics sites. People vote on the theme they want and whichever has the most votes is the theme.

Well I'm voting for entering, but just think that the time span is too short. Or the judges/people that make the SOTM and the actual participants, should be really active during the SOTM.

Anyways, no, not at the moment I don't. I'll keep on thinking about this. Hopefully an idea pops into my head eventually.

Keep thinking then, I think we should have an active SOTM no matter how it is done.
One of the advantages of open voting is everyone can enter. This means gypsy and flash, oxy, etc... can enter the competition. Which is an additional 3-4 entries.

S3RO, you must keep in mind, these aren't graphics forums. SOTM can hardly start up, now you want to modify it? Please use common sense.

Us graphic users want it to start up again by any means possible. Your a gfx user yourself, what would it take for you to enter?

True, this is supposed to be a forum for a strategy game, in which most of the time, no one actually talks about TAO. Even some members don't play TAO at all just hangs around the forums.

Got an idea. How about having 2 or 3 SOTM's at once? Each with different themes. People dont have to say "omg im soooo in" just posts an entry. Minimum of 5 entries per theme. Each theme will be in the same thread. Like September has 3 themes in one thread, October has 3 themes in one thread, etc.

On a certain forum I have been checking into the winner of the previous SOTM chooses the theme for the next one.Every one posts their entries and the theme they want if they win;I think that speeds it up a little.

So the winner choses the next theme. I think that is a interesting idea.
