Gun Control

Discuss, argue, blather, etc. I'll expand on my views later, but I would say I'm in favor of stricter gun laws than most Americans, but more in favor of "gun rights" than most Europeans.

I really don't are for stricter gun control standards because the fact is that if someone wants a gun they can get one for under $100 without any hassle. If someone wants to obtain a gun legally more power to them why make it harder for them to obtain one?

If laws are too strict the criminals are going to get guns illegally anyway. So nothing short of removing all guns(don't get me started on the whole dystopian thing) could prevent gun violence. Even if you did that people would simply use knives/swords etc... There will always be weapons and violence in human society, and it's not automatically a bad thing, better to have that then to be in some sort of society out of a science fiction piece. I don't have a bunch of time right now or I would cite statistics.

Neither of those are valid answers as far as I can see, Romalice. The only way to stop someone with a gun from shooting you is to a) appear harmless or b) kill them. The second one doesn't appeal to me.

So... any other answers that aren't "for protection"? Because having a gun doesn't protect you, it makes you more of a target.

Stricter gun laws wouldn't do any good. People would just use another type of weapon. People just need to think before they use a gun, that's all.

I honestly think unless your in the army, fighting, you don't need a firearm or weapon. However, people can easily make weapons out of household objects, or objects that already posse threat like a knife or razor. But, if I want to say my Army comment from above, I have to get into the whole thing about exceptions made during war that are unethical if you think about it.

Either way, you shouldn't have to really worry about protecting yourself. But, we live in a messed up world and you are never really safe, ever. It is also like others said, making the laws stricter will only make people want them more, or go about illegal routes. I do agree they need to be tougher, but the grim reality of it will not stop anything really.
