While skimming Google for stuff for a Politics Assignment, I came across a site that lets you know if something you want to view is banned by an oppressive Communist regime! Hurray!

i know someone in my ap euro history class that had a chinese pen pal, one day, she typed a response, only too see the quoted reply from her pen pal to be edited according to their standards. - then one day all emails stopped..mm...

key words (there are MANY) trigger the censors, and it happens all too often

That's what it's referred to as, actually. Someone thought it up, and it works very well. After all, it IS a giant Firewall. People in China get around it using proxies though.

I went through an Iraq proxy at one time just to see what would happen. Whenever I went to an "inappropriate" site I would be redirected to this very plain website that had a picture of the Iraqi flag and text in their language (which I couldn't read). I'll try going through a Chinese proxy at some point to see what happens, but I imagine it will be very similar.
