Fairness Doctrine

There's a bill floating around which would introduce the so-called "Fairness Doctrine", which would force radio broadcasters to give equal time to opposing viewpoints on their shows. The speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi, apparently supports the bill, as do a number of other Democrats. Barack Obama doesn't. The idea is to limit talk radio, which is overwhelmingly conservative.

This idea has been very well publicized, mostly by conservatives as a campaign issue. I think the "Fairness Doctrine" is so ridiculously incompatible with the American free speech tradition that it's a no-brainer. And, I don't actually know anyone in real life -liberal, moderate, or conservative- who supports the bill. However, apparently many congressional Democrats do.

But I thought that BO was the most liberal senator in history. Just like John Kerry....

He must be supporting it too.

That's ridiculous. If it was passed, would there be one for newspapers and magazines too? Why don't the Democrats make their own radio shows?

I heard of this, but it is not to serious. Complete violation of first amendment, even though I would like to hear someone other then ingram, limbaugh, levin, hannity, and the rest.

Haha, Rush would overdose on morphine. It isn't going to happen though.

Well, it was law until the Reagan administration repealed it.
