Pokemon: Platinum?
First off, I'd like to introduce Pokemon Platinum for those of you who haven't heard: Pokemon Platinum Game for Nintendo DS
(more info here: http://ds.ign.com/articles/910/910027p1.html) Secondly, I'd like to say how bloody disappointed I am with it. The DS can handle 3d graphics decently, as in the mario games and others like Ninja Gaiden and the Final Fantasy series. Doesn't Pokemond deserve this treatment? I'm sick of sprite based battling. Not that it's not fun, it just gets repetetive when you know you can have more and have experienced it on far older systems. I demand 3D! When Platinum was announced, I went all googly-eyed, thinking that perhaps this would be the defining Pokemon game, a Crystal-like world (think 24 gyms, Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh), and a defining Elite 4 with a great storyline. Instead, we got a Pokemon Emerald. Another freaking sprite-based battler with a midly different storyline then Diamond and Pearl. Not even Crystal-good. Mostly the same ol' gyms, same ol' pokemon with a few exceptions, and same ol' graphics. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE pokemon. I'm just waiting for one I can really enjoy for this generation of handheld console... /endrant /discuss Last edited by Duraza; 09-17-2008 at 11:49 PM. |

When my brother told me of the Spirit forms of Legendary pokemon I told him, you're not getting this game. Its pretty much Diamond and Pearl all over again. I still think that even though the graphics in the older games ( mainly Crystal) weren't good, they were interesting because you got to go to other regions. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the Sepii Islands on Leaf green and Fire red, but thats all you get to do. Wheres the rest of the things? And why do they always tempt you with pokemon that you can't get ingame but have to trade or do other things to get.

Why was gold and silver so well received? Innovation.
G/S/C introduced a good amount of original Pokemons, including Legends. Three legendary gerbils that moved on the map instead of 3 stationary birds. Innovative. G/S/C allowed trading between R/B/Y. Innovative. G/S/C introduced time based events. Innovative. G/S/C had (at the time) strange themed gyms. Who would've expected a bird or bug based gym? G/S/C had breeding, an adventure after the pokemon league, new types, new stats, new abilities, new moves, a story line that's NOT based on random legendaries and team ____. No one expected the graphics to be anything MORE than sprites for the gameboy colors, but the graphics was WAAAY better than the ones from the previous generation of pokemon. It was epic. What does D/P/P have? An influx of 15+ legendary pokemons to make the legendary class look worthless (with lolololol god pokemons srsly, gtho), random crap you do with berries that doesn't have any impact, and other random derivations from what was already established from the previous 3 generations, oh and MOAR FREAKIN USELESS HM'S. You would think they could make battle cutscenes between pokemons, but it is still stationary sprite battling. At least make it move a little bit, somewhat like Fire Emblem. But no, they still have lots of fanboys, so let's see how long can they milk the series. Seriously, 2 fossils per game, a team as the antagonists, 8 gyms, then the elite four...and random crap island/park/tower/frontiers with lvl100 trainers. Old. These features are all boring considering that they have been implemented 2 generations ago and you pretty much want action BEFORE beating the elite four. ...Yeah, final note, the legendaries in this game looks like jokes. STOP ADDING MOAR POKEMONS!! Seriously, you get like, 8 new baby pokemons every freaking game, what do they do? Nothing...Completely worthless. New Rattata clones for every game, same stats, same types, just with different sprite. fail/10 |

At least make something different. Maybe have you BE team rocket for a little bit? Maybe better cutscenes between pokemans (even Gold had the optional attack movement, for GBC!), something other than the default 8 gyms, that lets you do more and have a wider variety, less emphasis on legendaries. In G/S/C, legendaries were just THERE, not LOLMG! LET'S MAKE THE WHOLE GAME ABOUT THE LEGENDARY!!?!?!
And learn from the MISTAKES of the past games, like in Red there were VERY long dungeons (like mount moon, the cave by the electric plant, etc. In G/S/C, there were caves, but nothing that was DEFAULTED that you had to go through to get to the second gym, with weak pokemon that you don't want.

They better not screw up Dusk Gold and Dawn Silver. They should've just gave up Platinum and worked on those two instead. Can't believe Platinum is getting such a high rating...
And what's with the names of the newer games? Moving from colors into jewelries Last edited by Congar; 09-18-2008 at 02:30 AM. |

I know Crystal was good, but I still don't fully understand why they keep making games that are almost the exact same as the 2 before it (which are already similar). Other than extra profits and a little improvement on the old games, though.
And I preferred Gold. That was the best game ever. Ho-Oh level 40, Mareep, and great gameplay.
