Is It Morally Permissible to kill one to save many?

Assuming that it is known that with the death of one person, a larger amount of people will be saved.

Also assuming everyone involved are all equally innocent people.

No, the person being killed, and the people they are saving are as individuals all of equal goodness and innocence.

On one hand, you would have to kill someone (or let some people die), on the other hand, if it results in the prevention of something horrible, it would be viewed by most as a good decision. However, who are you to say whose lives are more valuable? No matter what happens it's going to have a negative impact on different people. The answer is yes. Sometimes you have to make hard choices, but the death of one is more important than everybody dying.

I remember some thread about making a decision with lives....I think that thread was made by Pontius...
