Voting Tax

Not everyone votes, some believe their votes don't count, and that their 1 vote doesn't matter. One vote usually doesn't make a difference, but when there are thousands of people who think their vote wont count it does.

I suggest in the U.S we should have a tax for people who don't vote. If you don't vote in your local precinct, (you may get a absentee ballot), then you will have to pay a small tax, which would go toward money to pay for the voting machines, and methods of recording.

Pro's
1. Will get more people to vote
2. Help pay for voting system

Con's
Some may vote just so they dont pay tax

I would straight up shank someone.

... Basically, I only live here because my parents do. I plan on not ever setting foot here again after I'm done with my graduate degree. So I really don't care which way this country is going. In fact, it would just be another nuisance for me... I would have to waste a day waiting in a ridiculously long line to vote for some random person who really doesn't have all that much power in the government. The president is just a figurehead, basically. You really think Bush makes all his decisions single-handedly? Nahhh, he has a cabinet full of people making decisions for him. So really, the president will not make a difference in which way the country is going. Overall, I do think 1 vote will not change anything, but mostly, I think it doesn't matter at all who will be president. I'm not too much of a fanatic about politics, but I think any party can run the country just as well as another.

I don't know how right I may be on this, but it seems QUITE illogical for one person to be making decisions on behalf of a nation this large.

Gypsy is an unknown quantity at this point
No. There are no real benefits. Forcing people to vote is always a bad idea.

Well, he hires the cabinet. Basically he doesn't even have to have a cabinet if he doesn't want to. But yes he does have power, he is the commander in chief of our army, (the top general in other words).

He can basically go to war for a certain number of days without prior approval.

People who don't vote are either morons, or uninterested in US affairs. There votes wouldn't really help anyway.

What's so good about getting extra votes? Why vote if you have no particular interest in political science. The reason voting was introduced is so the people who care about the next president, get who they feel should take office.

The constution states that voting is a right, not a duty for which if you do not take part you will be fined. Simple as that.

You shouldn't have enforced voting (and that's what this is).

Disagree entirely (and I'm a voter)

benefit of living in a free country is that you don't get coerced to do things like that. People would view it as an imposition on their basic freedoms and equalities.

registering to vote also means you're enrolled in the jury duty system. now you're sticking people between potentially missing days of work pay, or getting taxed outright. yay!

Voting with perks or penalties isn't voting, its commu-casting....

yes, the word is made up, but forcing people to vote isn't going to make anything better. It'll only hinder the already severe cash flow problems Bushy is having.
