General Computer Question Thread
I decided to make this thread for people that have questions, but dont deserve thier own thread. I will make a list of questions that still need to be answered.
My Question: I'm trying to install a second IDE internal hard-drive as my primary slave. I've put it in it's decteded by BIOS, but when I run Windows XP SP2 the drive isn't there..which I think is right as I need to install it with the disc that I had to download from the Seagate website. But when I run DiscWizard and click Add New Drive it says that the program is designed for more than two drives. Of course I tried using Windows Hardware Wizard, but it didn't detect the drive.. And yes, the jumpers are on correctly... Help?

?
Are you putting it on the same IDE Cable as the other drive or CR-ROM/DVD-ROM or on its own Cable? How large is the drive? If you go into the Computer Management and click on Disk Management do you see your second Drive there? |

Is the 30GB a New drive or used one?
Have you looked under Computer Management to see if the Drive shows up there? Have you looked under Device Management (Disk Drives) to see if you see the Drive there? Last edited by M_A_D; 06-30-2008 at 02:00 AM. |

Used drive and Windows did not see it? You really should not need any 3rd party software to install a old 30 GB drive. Did the drive work before you got it and when was the last time it was used?
Have you looked under Computer Management to see if the Drive shows up there? Have you looked under Device Management (Disk Drives) to see if you see the Drive there? Does it have any thing on it as far as you know? |

Set the jumpers to cable select to get by the master slave thing on the data cable. You need to make sure that Windows does not see the drive by going into: Computer Management and Device Management (Disk Drives) Device Management to see if Windows has loaded any Drivers for the disk. If you do all this and no luck then do this. Setup the Bios to boot from the CD. Get a Windows XP CD or a Boot disk of some kind. Place the Boot Disk or WIndows XP disk in the drive. **(The windows XP disk should try to install windows, only go to the point where you can format the disk then stop.) Turn off the PC. Unplug all Drives BUT for the Used Drive and One CD/DVD Drive. Start your PC up. If you see the drive now try to Format it and after that put every thing back to the way it was and see if windows see it. If you can not see the drive then I will say it is DEAD. |
