Misuse of the word "epic"

Over the course of my Internet career, I savoured the inanity of All Your Base, reveled in the delirious violence of Xiao Xiao, and danced to Yatta wearing nothing but a fig leaf. However, nothing has affected me more than the frequent use of the word "epic" among Internet surfers.

The word "epic" originally meant a poem celebrating a legendary hero. This evolved to mean dramatic, great, substantial, and of great scope. Yet, Internet surfers toss this word back and forth out of its context. "Epic" often replaces the adjective "good" and its variants - this is an understatement of its original meaning. Moreover, it is also used as a sarcastic term of disparagement for something insignificant and inane, opposite of its intended definition.

This mindless misuse of the word "epic" is evidence of the falling state of the English language. Internet surfers have no respect for the English language and its historical contexts; instead, they corrupt words to suit their newly-found vaunted personalities. Yesteryear, disposable plates; now, disposable words; and soon, disposable lives! When will this madness end?

The answer to that is simple. If Internet surfers stop the misuse of the word "epic," other changes will follow. Slowly, we can bring back the sanctity of the English language, and change the face of the Internet for the better.

That would be simply...

epic.

If you want to take it upon yourself to stop it, then do so. Such an epic undertaking isn't for me, though.
