That's for people that are actually leaving, however then you have people who make threads like "I'm leaving... for a week." That kind of stuff is totally unnecessary and blah blah blah... i'm bored now.
In short good-bye threads are totally unneeded and just seem like a last minute way of trying to seek attention in most situations.
