In FPS, xerent started a few "CAU Challenges" and now I'm taking over the role with a few more challenges in the FPS forums. These challenges each have individual criteria; they each have a theme. The most recent one that I created was CAU Challenge: Expansion (click if you choose) in which contestants were asked to create a unit that grew under certain conditions. I graded them based on Originality, Balance, Adaptability, and Strategy.

The reason why CAU Challenges really make the CAU forum exciting is that it not only inspires, but forces people to go outside the box in their creations, especially after seeing the interpretation of the challenge by others.

I'm definitely not asking your support for me to run a CAU Challenge, but I think that some of you could appreciate a new "challenge" in Create-A-Unit.

Would you be interested in something like this?

Uhm I do like the idea! You could start the thing off by something like CAU-Of-The-Month, with open entry upon the criteria/theme. When people like the idea, you could organize 1 on 1 challenges... Just a thought.

In the past, they've only taken a couple of weeks. I've only made two myself and the first one had seven entries (each contestant can only make two units), while this new one has only been around for a few days and has four already. I think it's contagious, myself. I mean this is the kind of motivation that a forum section like this needs.

What do you mean by 1 on 1 challenges?

Uhm I guess were both thinking in the same direction.
I thought you meant to organize challenges, where only 2 people contribute (1 on 1). To have several people contribute is of course funnier!

Hah. Yeah, of course more than one can participate in each challenge. And the judging doesn't have to be the same in these forums. In FPS, the one-judge system works well because I'm very active and I usually grade the units within a day or two of them posting.

I encourage you all in the meantime to make an FPS forum account and participate in my current CAU Challenge: Expansion. There is a discussion thread and a separate submissions thread to make it organized.

I'm hesitant to start up a CAU Challenge here right away because I'm so new here and it would be seen as perhaps a little arrogant of me.

Umh. Well...
If you could get an established member to organize/moderate the challenge for you, that would surely spark popularity as well as acceptance. Maybe inviting some members that have actively rated and created CAUs here as Jurors would help too (Gypsy, M_A_D,...).

I will put one together and gather judges if you want to. I'm not sure how many active cau people are around anymore. Essence, Blockey, Lord Ash, Cross Punisher, Redazure, Cyberopts and Myself were some of the best, but I can't think of too many active members that are good at and enjoy cau.

I could also think of some prizes if need be.

I suppose I could be a judge if you need another. I'm very active and since I've been playing for four years and CAU'ing for 3 on the other forum, I've developed a good critique in my opinion.
