You must certainly can lose games because of luck. Sometimes people just get an overwhelming amount of blocks and you simply cannot get past it. Or you could be facing an opponent that is very similar in skill level to you and he could get one more knight block at end game. You could have played perfectly in both situations and still have it not be enough. Its very possible.

The only way I would come close to agreeing with that perspective is if you are up against a DSM bomb rush with a melee rush (beasts, knights, dragon, mud, scout, whatever). They are setup to do crazy damage. And your units are right there for the flaying. You might depend on a front pyro hit to succeed. But it doesn't. You get roasted. And by the time you finish off his magic, you are too low in HP to win the game. But I don't call that a loss because of luck. I call that a loss due to set weakness. That is the biggest difference between TAO and chess. In chess, you never have an excuse for losing. In TAO, you can make an excuse that their set completely countered yours. Luck isn't an excuse.

But then, I also say that golds don't have an advantage over fully dropped grays. Feel free to disagree with me on that score, too. It's a matter of opinion. Considering as how I got a 1900+ gold called Cereal Killer down to a single dragon before losing to him (just barely lost my draw option), I'd say I wasn't far on that mark. It's harder to provide evidence that luck doesn't lose games - just relying on it.
