Oh yeah that turning off thing, I've experienced that. My cousin had a Mitsubishi Eclipse manual, and sometimes when he messed up the car would turn off, I was like what the hell and then he explained to me that he messed up the gear shift. Booooooring. Truth. Manual is more challenging and fun.

A manual will go bad if the driver is not doing things right. If you overuse the clutch or just like pushing the car too hard (e.g. you CAN actually hit the reds in RPM if you are driving manual, you'll accelerate faster but you WILL suffer the consequences). It can also be something silly, like accelerating without realizing that you are still in neutral (Bottle pointed out that driving a stick becomes second nature yes, but however, that comes at the price of no longer carefully thinking of what you are doing). One of those misses, you pass the reds, and there goes your engine, and basically your car. With an automatic, that will never happen since the gas pedal will be programmed to "behave" with the engine. I guess that if you know how to drive manual, then that choice is best and more fun. Now, if you just THINK you can drive manual, be safe and use automatic. -El Cid |

I drive a manual car, and trust me, it is impossible to over-rev the car unless you are driving irresponsibly. And if you are driving irresponsbly, you shouldn't be driving at all, manual OR automatic.

I do it by sound when I am driving fast. Faster RPM's make a higher toned rev...so when it gets to high. Shift, and it goes back down. Easy as that... But motorcycles are different the cars, you can drive a motorcycle longer in higher RPM than a car and not really have to worry about engine damage...
