In racing, yes, manual car is the best. But in other times, I don't like it.

I wish I had a manual car though. It would've been fun learning to drive it.

Err...I don't know about that. I think they cost the same actually. However I'm not sure.

Manuals definitely cost less. I don't know if it's because they just cost less to manufacture or because of supply and demand, but it's a fact. Automatics also consume more fuel.

Yeah, a little bump and it will throw the shifter into the neutral position, your hands don't have to do that much. However, I would never want to drive a manual car because I tend to only drive to/from work and that's in heavy traffic.

Aye. Racing with a Manual is so much fun. I take my Bike to track days and race it. So much fun.

Manuals do save you fuel. No way. You have to know how hard to hit it in what direction. Now-a-days they have the hand shifters like in the new mitsubishi's they are so freaking sweet! So You have that other hand to use for something else. You can shift with the hand on the wheel.

When I had to return to my home country, I forcefully had to learn to drive a stick shift because it was required to take a driving course with them. There, most cars have manual transmission so you cannot just say you'll drive an automatic when getting your license :P

It indeed saves gas as you can choose to drive on a higher gear if you don't need the strength of a lower one and use less RPM.

As for more fun. If you are racing, definitely. Now, if you are just trying to get through traffic in the big city, then it can become cumbersome to go over the cycle:
Red light:
- Press on the breaks
- Down-shift to neutral
Green light:
- Press the clutch
- Shift to first
- Release clutch while pressing the gas pedal
- Shift to second
Red light:
(repeat >_<)

Not to say that if you do something wrong in any of the above, the car will turn off, and major head-turning will ensue.

There is also driving on steep hills, which may involve using your parking break so that you don't hit the car behind you when you first starting to move forward.

Luckily, the driving instructor I had did a good job teaching me all the techniques (he had it down to a science), I was also driving my father's car, which he bought from the army before retiring, which was very sweet:

(The picture above is from Wikipedia. My dad's car had a bit more wear and tear, but after the paint job, it ended up close to the picture, I'll surely miss driving it ).

So if you ever need some tips, let me know ;)

But as with anything, it's like riding a bicycle. Once you learn how to do it, you never forget, and it becomes second nature to you.

It's also far easier to go from manual to automatic than vice-versa.

All in all, manual is far superior.
