Alright as I promised to make one for Lost Soul, Here is a tut about the basics of Paint.net.

Alright lets start:




Here is the "toolbox"

First off we need to get to know the tools.

The Blue box shape tool is the gradient. When you click on the gradient, you can change the color of the first (primary) and secondary color to give you a good gradient. Here is what mine looks like :


The gradient can be used to make backgrounds for sigs.

Next tool is it PaintBrush:
The brush can be used to go over things, and can be used to scribble things. As of currently, I am uncertain how to obtain different kinds of brushes. The color of the paint brush can also be altered

Next tool is Zoom:
Zoom may seem useless, but it serves a purpose. You can zoom in on sigs, and edit small parts of it but will be seen in the overall sig.

Pencil:
If you have regular paint then you know what this does. The Pencil tool is also used to scribble over things, the color of pencil can also be changed by click on the colors, and changing around the primary and secondary colors

Eraser:
The eraser is used to erase things but I prefer the Undo button. The erase's color can be used to help with the gradient.

Paint Bucket:
The Paint Bucket is the tool that is used to create a background of 1 color easily. Just click the primary color, then click on the canvas. This should fill the canvas with that color.

Lasso, Rectangle select, and the Ellipse tool are the tools directly under each other. These tools can be used to cut a certain part of the render out, or make a part of the render blend in with the background (I have yet to do this properly)

Magic Wand:
The Magic wand controls how much of the render is selected to be cut out Here is what it should look like:


You see the box that says Tolerance? That can be moved from side to side to change how much of the render is selected. Here, mine is at 50%, you can change it to any number

Recolor:
The Recolor tool is the one that shows two circles one blue and one red. This tool does exactly what the name says, you can use this to change the color of a render or sprite by clicking the color you want in the color box, and clicking on a part of the render.

Text:
This tool allows for text to be input into a sig. The color of the text depends upon the primary color you have selected. In Order to add text, you click a color, the click anywhere on the sig, and type your text. The Font can be changed, and the text style can be changed as well

Line/Curve:
Have you ever wanted lines on your sig? Well, this tool does this and even changes the shape of the lines. Instead of plain old lines, you can make arrows, dashed lines, and dotted lines. To change the lines from the plain old style, you click on the line/curve icon on the tool box, and where the Tolerance box from the gradient was will appear. It should look like this:


You can change the style by clicking the little box next to the word Style, and scrolling down to the style you want.

The next 4 tools do the same thing, They are under the text icon. The Rectangle, Ellipse, Rounded Rectangle, and the FreeForm Tool all make a shape around the selected part of the render, and from there pieces can cut out from the render.

I hope this helped. This is only about the Basic Tools of Paint.Net.

How do you change the font?

you can download and install fonts from Download fonts | dafont.com

to keep the render from being covered, use the blue "up" arrow while the render layer is selected to move it up on top

Alright. So I have the render on. I want to add the cloud effect. When I press the "up" arrow or whatever it doesn't do anything. What does the arrow your talking about say when you put your mouse over it?
