As the "Posting and You" flash states so succinctly, it is always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one. I could go into great detail about the search button, but that is covered elsewhere.

However, there has been a recent problem with (especially newer) members reincarnating ancient threads (also known as necroposting or necroing) without further information to add to that thread. So I have some further guidelines to post here in addition to the "IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO POST IN AN EXISTING THREAD THAN TO START A NEW ONE" rule.

1. DO NOT REVIVE AN OLD THREAD (meaning the last post was more than a few weeks ago) UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO ADD TO THE DISCUSSION. Please note that your definition of important may not be the same as that of other people.

2. Threads that ask questions that have already been answered SHOULD NOT BE NECROED UNLESS YOU HAVE A SIMILAR QUESTION ON THE SAME TOPIC TO ASK, and that question HAS NOT BEEN ANSWERED ELSEWHERE BEFORE.

3. Necroposting a thread of a retired member as if you expect them to read it is thoroughly pointless. DO NOT QUOTE ANCIENT POSTS AND THEN ARGUE WITH THEM.

4. Necroposts that do not follow the above rules may be deleted at the discretion of the mods, to effectively "un-necro" the thread. REPEATED, MALICIOUS NECROPOSTING WITHOUT ADDING TO THE DISCUSSION WILL BE CLASSED AS SPAMMING AND WILL BE TREATED AS SUCH FOR INFRACTION PURPOSES.
